For the week of November 5 – 9, we will host classes on how to round out your education resume, field tough questions, focus your mission statement and be yourself on the interview!
Classes are from 10:00 – 11:00. Decide which day you’d like to attend and make your reservation with Ms. Noland at the Media Center Help Desk.
Tech Speak
Technophobe A person who has an irrational fear of using electronic equipment, particularly computers and their peripheral devices. In libraries, technophobic patrons may not admit their fear, so the astute reference librarian must be alert to certain cues, such as lack of familiarity with the keyboard or signs of anxiety, and be ready to provide reassurance as needed. In cases of stubborn refusal, the librarian may have to encourage a lot of outside practice!
Filter
A computer program designed to allow only selected data to pass through to the user, for example, an e-mail system that alerts the recipient to selected incoming messages or software that blocks access to Web sites containing certain types of content, usually violent or sexually explicit material. Be aware that we do monitor use…mind your manners!
Gateway
Computer software that allows the user to access data stored on a host computer via a network. Also refers to the hardware device that interconnects two separate networks, providing a pathway for the transfer of data and any protocol conversion required, for example, between the messaging protocols of two different e-mail systems.
